If you are planning your wedding, dance floor hire is one of those important things you cannot miss. But while music and dancing will help everyone make merry, is there a performance issue you need to address?
This question may be asked because the newlywed couple is always expected to be first up there for the obligatory ‘first dance’. But does this really have to be a performance of slick moves and brilliant footwork as if you are a Strictly contestant?
To read an article in Brides Magazine, you might be forgiven for thinking so. The article offers all sorts of advice on how to go about the first dance and then go about getting others on the dance floor, from the timing and order to just how technical you are going to be about it.
However, the reality is this is your first dance and afterwards, nobody will be too bothered about how technically skilled you were, or about the order or timing of the songs. Folk will simply be happy for you, and then want to get up and dance.
The other reason you really shouldn’t worry too much, but just have fun, is that it really isn’t the end of the world if you dance poorly or out of tune. Indeed, it could be the least damaging time for you, or any of your guests, to have a wedding blooper.
It isn’t hard to find footage online of calamities at weddings, be it clangers dropped when saying vows or giving speeches, slips, trips, and even venues catching fire and punch-ups.
Put up against that, does it really matter if there’s a bit of dad dancing, a groom with two left feet, or a bride who genuinely does dance like a Strictly contestant, only it’s Anne Widdecombe?
The answer is: surely not. What matters is not perfection. It is simply about everyone having a fantastic time on the dance floor.
